10 easy, healthy lunchbox ideas

We dusted off our lunchboxes this week as my girls returned to their various preschool activities after the summer holidays. On Monday I certainly struggled to think of good lunchbox fillers and have been trying to put more thought into it as the week has gone on. My eldest daughter needs a packed lunch four days a week now. Ideally I'd love these lunches to be varied, healthy, homemade, tasty and desirable, without being too stressful for me to put together. To me a healthy lunch is one full of real food and real ingredients. I try to limit the amount of refined white sugar, refined white … [Read more...]

Hungry by Stephanie Hamilton

"We all HUNGER for more meaning.  Searching endlessly, and insatiably so...trying to fill the cracks that creep into our existence.  We are waiting for someone, or something to come and light up our lives, when all along WE are the solution, WE are the creation, WE ARE OUR OWN SAVIOR." The countdown is on … it’s the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games in London tonight! All the athletes are about to ‘strut their stuff’ after years of dedication, perspiration and preparation!   Can Michael Phelps do it again? I’m reminded of the magnificent accomplishment of eight gold medals, won by Michael Phelps at the Beijing Olympics in 2008! That accomplishment set a record for the most gold medals ever won in a single Olympic Games. He’s won 14 career Olympic gold medals; the most by any Olympian. In terms of total career Olympic medals, he’s ranked … [Read more...]

Bugged by Allergies

More research has been published showing the relationship between the microbes that live in the gut and the development of allergies, asthma and eczema. Human beings are covered – inside and out – by bugs: bacteria, yeasts, parasites and likely viruses as well.  In fact human cells are outnumbered 10:1 by microbial cells (that is we each have 10x as many microbes on us and in us as we do human cells)!  This collection of microbes is called the human microbiome.  This microbiome plays many essential roles in our health and wellbeing, or lack thereof.  With a healthy microbiome we … [Read more...]
