Gratitude

I was reflecting yesterday on the last line of the Five Principles of Reiki "Show gratitude to every living thing". So, I was thinking about gratitude. A friend of mine recently set herself a task to post daily on Facebook one thing that she was grateful for, and it struck me how much we take for granted without giving thanks. In fact, it's more than that. I spend a lot of my time wanting more, more money, a bigger house, more perfectly behaved children, and more attentive and loving husband, without any acknowledgement of the fact that actually I am already blessed. 12 years ago I thought I would … [Read more...]

A Course In Miracles: Lesson Two

ACIM

Lesson Two I have given everything I see in this room (on this street, from this window, in this place) all the meaning that it has for me. This lesson puts yesterday's lesson into focus for me. Yesterday I felt a little confused by the lesson, and this morning I have woken with clarity. It was about creating a blank canvas, and acknowledgement that actually we control what meaning things have for us, and not the other way round. When I did my Sociology Degree (was it really almost 20 years ago?) I remember clearly having a discussion around language and conversation. Do the words have meaning … [Read more...]

A Course in Miracles: Lesson One

Rach Logo Small

I was reading A Course in Miracles last night and came up with an idea. The Course has 365 lessons, one for each day of the year, so I thought, why not set myself a task to follow these lessons, and record how I get on? I have been on a voyage of self discovery most of my life. I first read Louise Hay's 'You Can Heal Your Life' maybe 20 years ago and have been trying to find my inner peace and true happiness ever since. I have had periods of depression through out my life and so finding that state of 'peace', being 'happy' is perhaps a little more of a struggle, and yet I struggle on. I am a huge … [Read more...]

You Can Create an Exceptional Life by Louise Hay and Cheryl Richardson

exceptional life

This is The Big Swell Book Group first book review, so the start of a new journey and experience for us all. I therefore thought it would be appropriate to try something inspirational and motivating to give us all a boost of energy for the start of a new year. When I suggested using this book my sister told me that she wasn't really into 'self help' and that it might not be her 'cup of tea'. But I don't see this book in the same way as other 'self help' books. In fact I have heard the author Louise Hay refer to this book not by its published title but rather as 'conversations between Louise and … [Read more...]

Growing….

Two weeks ago it was my son's 9th birthday. Every year, on their birthdays, we measure our sons' heights. My eldest son Jamie looked on in horror to see that his brother was almost the same height as him, despite being almost 2 years younger. Jamie turned to me and asked me when he might have a growth spurt, desperate to think that he might edge ahead of his brother again. And so we sat down and did some research on 'growth spurts' which led us to a fuller discussion on 'puberty', and I have written a fuller article on what we discovered. On a personal level, it was a very interesting discussion … [Read more...]
